The standard path to university in Quebec is CEGEP, which offers two-year pre-university programs and three-year technical programs. Technical programs prepare you to enter the workforce, although you can choose to continue your studies at university. Here are some quick reference links. Are you admitted to CEGEP? Do you have an IEP and an evaluation report with a diagnosis report? You may be eligible to receive accommodations and support such as a note-taker, extended time for exams, specialized software, (etc.) from your CEGEP’s Access Centre.
IMPORTANT: AN IEP ALONE IS NOT SUFFICIENT. YOU MUST ALSO HAVE A DIAGNOSIS WITH SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION ISSUED BY AN AUTHORIZED LICENCED PROFESSIONAL (Ex: DOCTOR, PSYCHOLOGIST, SPEECH/LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST, ETC.)
Accommodations, supports, and IEPs you received in high school will NOT continue automatically in CEGEP. It is the student’s responsibility to submit a request for support services. We advise you to do so as soon as you receive your CEGEP acceptance letter. Click below or visit your CEGEP’s website to learn how.
Once you’ve submitted your request, your CEGEP’s Access Centre will schedule a meeting in late spring or summer to discuss your needs and organize support before classes begin.
Please note that many sports, extra-curricular activities, and services including academic advising, tutoring, personal counselling, and financial aid, are available to ALL CEGEP students through CEGEP Student Services departments, with or without an IEP or diagnosis. Don’t be shy to ask for help and get involved!
Email Ms. Duknic or Ms. Scantlebury if you have questions!
