Without a doubt, it’s going to be a school year with more changes than we could have imagined. We are here for your child, we are here for your family. Let’s work together to solve problems, and not forget we have a lot of student achievements and accomplishments to celebrate!
– Your HSB Team
Parent / Teacher Interviews will take place Nov 26 & 27 via Teams.
Check your email for the reservation link.
We’re all going online… Temporarily, that is!
On December 17th and 18th all HSB classes will be held online via Teams. Your grade 7 or 8 children should already be very familiar with the app as classes have been practicing and 9, 10 & 11’s are old pros at it by this point. Enjoy a safe and relaxing holiday break.
Classes will resume online for all grades from January 5th until the 8th. (Monday, Jan 4 is a ped day.)
We’ll get back to our “normal” online and in-person schedules as of Tuesday, January 12, 2021, Day 4. (Monday, Jan 11 is a ped day.)
You can see the schedules on our calendar page.
Not sure what your child’s homeroom number is? No worries. You can find it on their timetable.
Online Learning . . . Curve!
Learning online is new for our students, and with new ways come new challenges. To help our students adapt, we have created HSB Netiquette.
It’s so important that your child is present and actively participating in their online classes. By staying engaged and “present”, students connect with their teachers and classmates and improve their understanding of the content covered.
Fantastic, FREE activities are starting up soon! From Basketball Skills to Laughing Yoga to Wilderness Survival, and everything in between, there’s something for everyone. Click here to find out more.
Masks & Distancing
It was announced on Monday that Quebec’s “red zone” restrictions will continue until November 23 (for now). At school, this means that students must continue to wear masks at all times, and maintain a 2-meter distance with students who are not in their class “bubble”.
Quebec’s Public Health directive states that if your child has any COVID-19 symptoms, they must stay home for 24 hours. If your child feels better after 24 hours, it’s back to school time. If they are still not feeling well, you are asked to complete the “self-assessment tool” on Quebec.ca and follow the recommendations given. Please be sure to keep us informed along the way using your Parent Portal.
Laptop on Loan?
Call your home insurance provider to let them know. It hasn’t happened often, but we’ve had some disappointed/surprised families. Disappointed that the borrowed laptop was damaged — surprised they had to pay the cost of the repair. Although the suggestion is on the loan agreement that parents sign, we want to get the word out as much as possible.
We have a limited number of laptops available for loan. Need to borrow one? Click here!
A quick reminder HSB hoodies are an official part of the HSB uniform; other hoodies are not and can’t be worn at school. The HSB hoodies are popular with students, are “comfy” and “don’t look like a wizard’s hood” according to a random hallway survey 🙂 Here’s a link to our uniform supplier.
Student ID Lanyards
We have purchased lanyards for all students to have a spot for their ID cards, which now also shows their homeroom “bubble”. As this is another “new thing” in a year of “new things”, we would appreciate your help ensuring that your child understands the importance of wearing their ID tags at school as this helps school staff with student safety on campus.
Absences – In-school and Online
Use your Parent Portal to let us know your child will be absent.
Don’t worry if you notice your child is marked absent for the rest of the year. We can’t see into the future – this is just a default setting that is over-ridden when teachers take attendance at the beginning of each class.
