What is the Governing Board?
The H.S.B. Governing Board is made up of parents, teachers, support staff and students. They meet monthly to discuss and vote on educational and financial matters. Some financial topics reviewed annually are the school budget, Mesure money from the government, and school fees. Educational topics discussed include programming, time allocated to subjects, workbooks, and educational outings. Governing board also reviews the Rules of Conduct and Safety, emergency measures, and Anti-Violence Anti-Bullying plans, uniforms, School Board consultations and matters that affect the governing of the school. If you want to get involved in the decision-making come and join us!
How do I join Governing Board?
Parents can be nominated and voted in at the Annual General Meeting that will be held on Thursday, September 17th. Usually parents are elected for a two-year term. This year we do have two vacancies that will be for one year only. (To replace parents whose children have graduated.) We would like representation from all of the school programs and grade levels if possible. Parents who elected represent all parents, not just the interests of their own children.
Central Parent Committee
Normally at the Annual General Meeting, one parent from the Governing Board is elected to represent H.S.B. at the Central Parents Committee. This year no election is necessary as Ms. Dana Hoshowatiuk will be the H.S.B. representative completing the second year of her parent commissioner mandate.
Hope to see you all there!
